What does the course cover?
Over the course of the skills bootcamp, you will gain foundational knowledge and practical experience in green construction methods and technologies, essential for meeting the growing demand for low-carbon, energy-efficient buildings. This industry-informed Skills Bootcamp combines classroom-based instruction with hands-on learning and immersive virtual reality experiences.? This includes the opportunity for you to attend live sites, as well as bespoke, state of the art training facilities to learn green skills with industry leaders.
The bootcamp will cover a comprehensive range of topics, including an induction and introduction to the programme, health and safety in construction, and key practices such as working at height and manual handling. You will also complete Emergency First Aid and fire safety training.
In addition, the course explores sustainable construction methods, including an introduction to passive housing for both new builds and retrofit projects, as well as air tightness, covering doors, windows, and insulation. You will gain insight into retrofit principles and practices, insulated concrete form (ICF) construction, and renewable energy systems such as solar PV and heat pumps. The programme also includes an overview of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).
Entry requirements and who is it suitable for
This bootcamp is suitable for individuals new to the construction industry, those looking to change careers, self-employed individuals or property owners interested in retrofitting, and businesses aiming to upskill their staff in green construction methods.
You must be at least 19 years old and live or work in Central Bedfordshire or Bedford Borough.
How is it completed?
The course is delivered over three weeks, with sessions running five days per week. Training is delivered face-to-face and includes tutor-led activities, assignments, and practical tasks.
Participants are expected to attend all sessions and complete a workbook at the end of each week. These workbooks are assessed and marked as part of the programme.

What can I progress onto?
On completion of this bootcamp, you could progress to further training such as the Level 4 Green Skills - Retrofit Supervisor qualification, Retrofit Coordinator or Assessor training, Heat Pump Installation (air and ground source), Level 3 Solar PV Installation, or an Insulation and Building Treatments NVQ Level 3.
